A Week In Review...

This is a big week for our family... This past Tuesday marked the one year anniversary of the day we officially became a trio. Josh had his first birthday on the 28th. We celebrated with birthday pancakes and peanut butter sandwiches (although these pictures don't necessarily capture his enthusiasm for either, I promise he loves both).

Josh had his 1 yr check-up the very next day and he weighed in at 18 lbs and 29 in long. Meme will be happy to know that his height bumped up from the 10th percentile to the 25th percentile this visit! It looks like he's following in his cousin Katie's footsteps though in the weight department, lol. Grandma and Grandpa were traveling back from Chicago on Josh's birthday, bringing a very special birthday present back with them, so we're going to be celebrating with cake and presents this weekend. More pictures to come on this topic!

In other news, you all know by now that we sold just about everything we owned before moving out to California in the Civic and Corolla... here is a picture of us moving into the apartment - everything we owned is in this picture, including the kid.

We made our monthly trip to Costco this week. We, like any other family nowadays, are always looking for ways to make our dollars go farther. This month we opted to buy produce in bulk from Costco instead of bi-weekly from the grocery store or local market. Believe it or not, a 10 lb bag of carrots costs the same at Costco as a 2 lb bag does at the grocery store... this, along with celery, green beans, corn, apples and bread was bought in bulk, chopped up and frozen in dinner-size portions for later. Here's how the freezer looks all stocked up.

I know, there should be WAY more ice cream, but all the butter goes to cookies. :) Mike did all the hard work of course, peeling the carrots and apples.

Last but not least, who knew a basket could be so much fun?

Columbus Day Weekend.

Great weekend ! Blake and Sarah came down Saturday - we drove into Monterey, grabbed lunch at Peter B's with a pitcher of the homeade brew and relaxed in good company. Joshua of course stole the show by throwing his food on the floor and making noises. Around 10:30pm that night, Willi and Debbie crashed the party - and stopped over to hang out for a while...

Sunday morning was awesome. Willi invited all 4 of us over for brunch, darts, and DA BEARS football game. Brunch was more like a feast, and the bears lost the game. Golf soon followed at the Par 3 course in Salinas. Not one of our best games, but I won the award of "best putt of the year." Willi is also becoming fond of using the almighty driver - last week he beat me, this week it was a tie.

Tiff and I walked to Michaels, Target and Kohls on Monday. It's about 4 miles round trip. We all got some sun, Joshua was relaxin' in the stroller and we bought bread. Yes. Bread. We were going to head down to the beach later that evening, but we think Tiffany caught some sort of 24 hr. virus/cold something that causes a fever and makes you sleep. Fortunately, the fever broke last night and she's feeling better.

As for the economy. So much for the bailout bill.. I lost all faith in our governments ability to be fiscally responsible. I guess they think this is a joke, and would rather borrow/inflate our currency than hold people responsible for their actions. Unfortunately, inflation punishes those who save and encourages those in debt to spend more.

We received an email last week telling us how much more experience Sarah Palin had than Barack Obama.... Could you vote for this: Click here for the Sarah Palin Interview ? It would be nice if the party system were abolished, but it would be even nicer if our voters went to the polls educated. So much for this beauty pageant. Tiffany and I watched the interview with Katie Couric and shook our heads in disbelief - keep in mind, we've always been die hard republicans, but not this year.
